I have been browsing the new(ish) website for speculative fiction stuff today and it is rather swish indeed! Very well set out and looks very smooth, a wealth of information on there (and even some of my interviews with the stars of speculative fiction)!

Last night I offered to become a mentor for a rather talented young lady, who submitted something to Voices. Her story was rejected but it was very easy to see genuine writing ability and the fact that she is only 17 makes that shine through even more. (I won't name her here as she might not want the world to know that I'm helping her out, it is a bit dangerous for her future career after all...)
The young writer in question was frustrated about markets and asked if I had any tips about them. Ralan is a very obvious one, although I really love Duotrope and think their whole approach to submissions and markets is exceptional. They have been a big help to Morrigan Books and Gilgamesh Press and if you haven't got on board do it now.
I have also decided to contact one more author regarding my collection, Nex, and this is a writer that Morrigan Books has been taking a very keen interest in. I've not had a response yet but I'm really hoping she agrees as I am a huge fan of her writing and think that she would make a perfect addition to what is already a very exciting book!
EDIT: I can now reveal that Carole Johnstone has agreed to work with me on Nex, (as hinted at above)! I am so excited about this and my motivation to get this done now knows no bounds!

I saw an ad for a mountain bike yesterday, from $670 (USD) down to $415 (USD) at a shop in town. Now I have a mountain bike that I use for daily cycling, which is a bit worse for wear and which I wouldn't trust to get me around a forest any more at all. I also have a racing bike (pictured above), which has a broken back wheel that I have to fix before I go out on it again. I will be fixing the wheel in any case, it's just which do I do first?
I love my racer but I also love the flexibility of being able to choose my courses, being as the mountain bike is good for forests and the racer good for roads...
And so:

Oh and this 'The Stars of Speculative Fiction' series I've doing, please contact me if you'd like to be involved as I e-mailed a group of people about it when I had the idea and my flist has somewhat increased in size since then. There are some slots as early as July, and then we move into autumn. I'd like to run this right up until December if I get the names, as it's been fun and I get the impression quite a few of you have enjoyed them.
Portishead is indeed the bomb now and I've been playing it at least five times a day - it will be there or thereabouts come
I have my Vox thing back up and running if anyone is on there and for the newbies I have zee old Facebook account, and Morrigan Books and Gilgamesh Press have Yahoo! Groups for news and info.

The Portishead album is really growing and that song, Nylon Smile, is just getting better with every listen. I was having problems with the end of the album but that seems to be coming together and at this moment in time it stands at album of the year. As you know that is a roller coaster of selections and there will be many changes before 31st December.

I'm jolly excited about that one, and have been warmed to hear that most of those rejected in the second stage are curious to know when the book is being released as they want a copy, due to their interest in the concept.
I'm feeling bright and shiny today, the book is going well, Morrigan Books is going well on all fronts and is getting some notice early on, amazing the impact when you think it became an official company less than five months ago!
Should be off for a run with the wife later (in the glaring sun). I'll let you know how that goes...

Well, actually the Voices thing was rather fun (in a tough way) and can be found over here:
The tax thing wasn't as much fun and all sorts of things went wrong in my attempt to get the damn thing in before the 23:59 deadline last night.
I did and at the end my wife laughed at the amount of effort to put in just to inform the tax office that I owed them no money and that they didn't owe me anything, due to my being several thousand kronor in the red.
I have been working on the photos from the trip a little and hopefully tonight or tomorrow may find some time to pop them on here - I know you're all desperate to see my wildly grinning features but patience, patience...
I feel like I can sit and chill now when I can do anything but - I have some contracts to draw up, some discussions on Voices, some e-mails of rejection or acceptance to write and then some serious chats with
amandapillar about what the writers need to do on their stories to make sure they work in the way we want, etc.
I'm on my way back though, in a lot of ways!

Blimey, go away for a week and lose internet capabilities and the whole world falls apart - we had 72 submissions for Voices before I left and 105 when I got back!

Tomorrow afternoon I fly off to Blighty, armed with a couple of books (I'll be picking up a few there), my trusty laptop (which isn't so trusty) and getting ready for my best friend's 40th birthday celebrations!
Got an e-mail this morning, and this makes the fourth of its kind:
Dear Mr. Deniz,
I know you have a scheduled release date for T. A. Moore's 'The Even' at this year's FantasyCon but I was wondering if you had any facility for pre-order as I really want the book and would like to guarantee a copy.
Cheers,

It's also St. George's Day and a day I never really took a lot of notice of until I moved away from blighty, funny that...
There is a lot of music going on just at the mo (much will be revealed later) and part of that is due to reading High Fidelity. I have seen the film about 8 times (well of course I have for I am in it) but never resd the book and it got me thinking of my top five recording artists just now. I think I would have to say:

- Tom Waits

Simon was beaten up in Northern England upon his arrival for being a Southern ponce and gained the nickname 'wanker man' from two rather strange girls in our university group (my name was 'terrorist man') but he's put all that behind him now and has just finished his three year run on London's musical circuit in the crowd-puller 'Sweeney Todd' (he played one of the pies).
Anyway, I give you Mr. Simon Guerrier!
